Hopefully, by now you've gotten a handle on what is available in the sweetener world. If not, you can read all about it in my "Sweet Nothings" post.
If you're like me, you are now searching for ways to save money! Who wants to pay out of the nose for 1 lb of sweetener? NOT ME! Remember how I said it took me nearly a year and half to figure all of this out? Well, I'm hoping to shorten your learning time by compiling all the research that I did in one easy to access place.
I am a researcher by nature. Once I become interested, I have to find out everything there is to know. I'm ALL in! One particular blogger brought me a wealth of information right out of the gate. DJFoodie doesn't just post recipes; he presents well thought out information that educates his readers to the "why." I love this! If you haven't checked out his site yet, I promise you won't be disappointed. His cook book Taking out the Carbage was my first low-carb purchase. He is coming out with a new book soon and you can purchase them both here. I can't wait to get mine!
As I learned more about sweeteners, I found that I was getting more and more confused. One site would give one equivalent while another would contradict that. I needed the facts! If you're like me and want to know every single detail, I suggest you read DJ's post here. It answered every question about home-made sweeteners that I could ever ask! From his sage advice, I gleaned three recipes that will stay in my wheelhouse for a lifetime. All three are below and are not my original creations - they came straight from DJ's wonderful brain (minus the Allulose addition) . While "Smappy Goodness" is a snappy title, I wanted to simplify things for myself, so I lovingly renamed them for my personal use. I always want to give credit where credit is due, so please checkout his recipe for all of the Smappy Goodness blends.
Let's talk stevia powder. I personally stick withTrim Healthy Mama Pure Stevia. I know there are a lot of other brands. Feel free to try them. I, however, know that this is a quality, clean tasting, non-gmo sweetener. From what I've read, you can't beat the quality or the taste, so there you have it! Also, don't let the price scare you. I know. 1 ounce seems like nothing, but when you're using 1/8 tsp at a time, it lasts forever. I've had mine for about a year and I still haven't used it all up!
Sugar Replacement - Or, as I call it - "Cup for Cup" ...
You know, because it measures cup for cup...
This stuff is THE BOMB! Seriously. When I first made this I thought it was too good to be true. I may or may not have repeatedly dipped my finger in the first batch. Was this really low-carb???
